Over-indulgence at Christmas

Once again we have reached that time of year when many of us will either eat too much or drink too much or, in all likelihood, both. Over-indulgence is as much a part of the festivities as exchanging presents and many of us are all too familiar with the consequences of this excess! The recovery process is something that all those familiar with this situation must go through and this can certainly be aided with eating more healthily and with the help of the herb Milk Thistle.

The foods we consume during the recovery period certainly have a significant effect on how successful we are, as are those we cut from our diet. We certainly need to restrict the intake of sugar, salt and wheat based foods whilst avoiding red meat, processed foods and ready-made meals as well as tea, coffee and alcohol. What we do need to do is lighten the load on the digestive system, this can be helped by focusing on eating mainly fruit and vegetables, with fruit juices and homemade soups a tasty way to get the benefits. Eating as much food as possible in its raw state also has significant benefits because it helps to preserve the enzymes naturally present in the food.

Keeping the bowels moving effectively is an essential part of a healthy recovery and therefore the use of high fibre foods such as pulses, porridge, millet, quinoa and brown rice as well as ensuring adequate fluid intake are also important. It is recommended to drink at least two litres of water per day, preferably at room temperature.  Also, the use of herbal teas can be of benefit for their cleansing properties and as a pleasant alternative to water.

To achieve our desired results not only do we need to address our diet but we will get even better results supporting our organs of elimination and general metabolism with supplements. DigestEeze (Milk Thistle) is one of the most important supplements for recovery with its ability to relieve the symptoms associated with occasional over-indulgence of food and drink such as indigestion and upset stomach.

A good multi-vitamin and mineral is essential for the processing of food and the removal of toxins whereas an antioxidant rich formulation provides the added benefit of helping to neutralise free radicals. Chlorophyll rich green foods such as Spirulina, Barley Grass and Wheat Grass also offer great benefit to those looking to cleanse their systems. Finally we would recommend the use of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids which have a wide array of functions from boosting the immune system to keeping the skin looking healthy leaving people looking both good inside and out!
